Reliable Pressure Measurement Referenced to Ambient Atmospheric Pressure
A gauge pressure sensor measures pressure relative to atmospheric pressure, making it ideal for HVAC systems, industrial processes, and everyday applications like tire pressure monitoring. Unlike absolute pressure sensors, gauge sensors can measure both positive and negative pressure, providing practical and reliable readings in environments where atmospheric conditions vary.
Absolute vs. Gauge Pressure Sensors
The key difference between absolute and relative pressure sensors is the reference point used for measurement:
- Absolute pressure sensors measure pressure relative to a perfect vacuum, producing stable, fully positive readings that are unaffected by atmospheric changes.
- Gauge pressure sensors measure pressure relative to the surrounding atmospheric pressure, which can vary with altitude and weather conditions.
